TOPIC: LOVE IN ACTION

Main Text: Luke 10:25-36

Memory verse: Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth - 1 John 3:18

Introduction

Our discussions on love continue in today’s study. There is a popular saying that “actions speak louder than words.” We shall take a critical look at how we can put our love for Christ in action. Our memory verse today tells us not to love with words but to follow our words of love with actions. We usually declare to the Lord that we love Him, but how do we demonstrate our love to Jesus and people we come into contact with? We have learnt from our previous study that God’s love is unconditional. In the same way, we must also show unconditional love to others irrespective of our relationship with them.

Questions for Discussion

1. How did the expert in the law test Jesus? Verse 25

2. What was Jesus’ response to his question? Verses 26-28

3. How did the priest and the Levite fail to show their love? Verses 31-32

4. How did the Samaritan demonstrate His love? Verses 33-35

5. To what extent can we demonstrate our love to others?

Conclusion

Demonstrating our love for God is critical if we want to be good examples of Jesus Christ. There are various ways in which we can demonstrate our love for God and others. These include, comfort and care for members and colleagues who are bereaved and attending the weddings of our members. Others are, giving our time, finances and other resources wholeheartedly to God. The Priest and the Levite refused to help the afflicted man. Sometimes we behave like them; we pretend not to see the challenges people are going through while we spend time in religious activities. Our study today encourages us to love not only in word but also in deed.
