Corinthians 13:4-13

-
1 Corinthians 13:13
Introduction
Love is a word that is
commonly used in everyday discourse. It connotes different things to different
people. However, the foundation of true love is Jesus Christ. Many individuals
show love in various ways. For many people, giving of gifts to others is a good
demonstration of love. In today’s passage, Paul teaches us about the real
attributes of love. As we strive to be good examples of Jesus, we must
endeavour to show love as He does. Our study today focuses on the true nature
of love.
Questions for Discussion
1. What are the
attributes of love? Verses 4-8
2. “Love does not delight
in evil”. Verse 6. Discuss
3. Why is love considered
the greatest virtue?
4. In which ways can
Christians show love to others?
5. What are the
hindrances to showing love and how can we overcome them?
Conclusion
Love is patient, love is
kind; it does not envy, it does not boast and is not proud. These are but a few
of the attributes of love. Human as we are, we sometimes find these attributes
challenging. Our human tendencies seem to override the need to show love to
others. We see in today’s study that love is greater than faith and hope. This
is an interesting revelation as it gives us an understanding that if we persist
in showing love, we will definitely be rewarded. Jesus teaches us to love our
enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything in
return. In doing this, our reward would be great (Luke 6:35). Be an agent of
love.
