COP 2018 BIBLE STUDY & HOME CELL WEEK 12

THE CHURCH OF PENTECOST – 2018 BIBLE STUDY OUTLINE
WEEK 12 – SUNDAY MORNING, MARCH 25, 2018.

TOPIC: OFFICERS’ APPRECIATION DAY – HONOUR OFFICERS OF THE CHURCH

Review of Previous Week’s Lesson (5 Minutes)
a. What did you learn last week?
b. How did you apply it to your life?

Main Text: Philippians 2: 24-30
Memory Verse: Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, to acknowledge those who work hard among you, who care for you in the Lord and who admonish you. – 1 Thessalonians 5:12

Introduction

Lay Leaders (Officers of the Church of Pentecost) are not paid by the church. Their dedicated service to God and the church enables more people to be reached and also makes discipleship and pastoral care effective. In view of this, the church has instituted the officers’ appreciation day to highlight their contribution and encourage members to show appreciation to them. This must be embraced with a good heart by every member of the church.

Questions for Discussion

1. Who was Epaphroditus and what was his role in the church in Philippi? verse 25-27
2. What happened to him? verse 30
3. Discuss the statement ‘welcome him in the Lord with great joy, and honour people like him’ in verse 29.
4. In what ways can we honour officers in our local church?
5. What have you learnt from today’s study?

Conclusion

Paul described Epaphroditus as a brother, fellow worker, fellow soldier, and a messenger of the church in Philippi. He risked his life for the work of Christ while Paul was under house arrest in Rome. Many officers make significant sacrifices for the progress of the church. Being custodians of the local church, they receive ministers and complement their efforts both in administration and discipleship. They also minister to the needs of members. As Paul instructed the Philippians, people who render such selfless service are worthy of appreciation and honour. Appreciation and honour can be expressed through visitation, giving of gifts, and respect for authority. We must also learn to say “thank you” when an officer extends a hand of help and also forgive them when they offend us.
